چکیده
The advent of bioremediation technology has helped scientists to proffer sustainable solutions problems associated with environmental pollution. This study was staged assess the growth Amaranthus cruentus L. on spent engine oil (SEO) contaminated soil that had been subjected bioremediation. Two bacterial co-cultures; Pseudomonas aeruginosa+Alcaligenes faecalis and Streptococcus pyogenes + Enterococcus were bio-enhanced organic amendments; powdered cow dung (PCD), cocoa pod husk (PCPH) compost made from (CD) (CPH) a view reclaiming SEO at three levels contamination. It factorial experiment laid out completely randomized design (CRD). Subsequently, amaranth seeds sown experimental pots in screen house. Results indicated two weeks after sowing (2WAS), produced significant (P < 0.05) highest plant heights (6.5, 7.5 6.1 cm) all contamination studied compared other amendments. Compost (6.0) number leaves amendments 10% level while same (4.0) 15% level. In respect stem girths measured this study, performance recorded 2WAS, four (4WAS) six (6WAS) 0.05). feat agents utilized further confirmed these as good candidates can be adopted ensuring reclamation restoration ravaged agricultural land.

متن کاملThe Effects of Spent Engine Oil on Soil Properties and Growth of Maize (Zea mays L.)
The effect of spent engine oil (SEO) on soil properties and growth of maize (Zea mays L.) was investigated. Five treatments (0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 l/kg) of the spent oil were applied to soil in perforated poly bags with maize stands at four weeks after sowing. Soil analysis showed that SEO had no effect on both the pH and texture of the soil. Organic C, N and Mg in the contaminated soils i...
متن کاملAssessment of Antioxidant Activity, Grain and Oil Production of Amaranth (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) in Saline Conditions
Salt stress is one of the major factors limiting crop productivity worldwide. Grain amaranth is new crop with high yield potential and good nutrition value which can be a good substitute for salt-sensitive crops in saline areas. This research was conducted to evaluate different level of salinity and applied salinity stress at several growth stages on some morphological and physiological traits ...
متن کاملPhysiological and Molecular Analysis of Aluminium-Induced Organic Acid Anion Secretion from Grain Amaranth (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.) Roots
Grain amaranth (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.) is abundant in oxalate and can secrete oxalate under aluminium (Al) stress. However, the features of Al-induced secretion of organic acid anions (OA) and potential genes responsible for OA secretion are poorly understood. Here, Al-induced OA secretion in grain amaranth roots was characterized by ion charomatography and enzymology methods, and suppr...
